About 3rdi

Our mission is to provide products and services that make life easier for operators who must manage audio and video systems. We do this by leveraging the power of computer systems to automate everyday activities in such a way as to reduce complexity, repetitive manual activities and potential for undesired events. This frees up the operator to attend to other activities. Our solutions are guided by the core tenets of simplicity, flexibility, reliability, consistency and fun.

3rdi specializes in PC based solutions designed to facilitate management of audio and video presentation devices along with signal processing and routing. Our target customers include public venues such as hotels, arenas, casinos, campuses, corporate offices, government facilities, cable TV head-ends and broadcast facilities. But really is anyone who needs to control digital or analog video, music and public address and digital signage.

Our products include individual software applications, custom-manufactured hardware and fully integrated systems. Our software applications communicate with external devices via RS-232 serial interfaces, TCP/IP networks and infrared wireless signals. All of our software is compatible with Windows 32 and 64 bit operating systems including Windows 2000 Pro , XP Pro and Vista. Our software applications take advantage of highly customizable graphical user interfaces and context driven controls that limit the amount of unnecessary visual clutter and focus on the task at hand. The user interface provides direct and intuitive user controls and plenty of status information.

Spartan

Basic Description

Spartan is application software designed to manage a variety of physical and virtual devices. Spartan is an acronym that stands for Scheduled Programming And Real Time Automation Network.

  • Scheduled        Full featured scheduler
  • Programming   Rich and customized programmable interface
  • Real Time         Immediate manual access to all devices for control and status
  • Automation     Unattended event activation
  • Network          Client-server distributed computing design for TCP/IP networks

Functional Design

Spartan software is comprised of two software applications: the scheduler controller and the device manager. The scheduler controller interacts with one or more device managers via TCP/IP connections. The scheduler controller does not interact directly with any external device that is ultimately being controlled. This is the job of the device manager. Each device manager is configured for the particular end device that is being controlled. The advantages from this design are device independence for the scheduler controller and extensibility for the device manager to accommodate any external end device that is controllable by RS-232 serial interface, TCP/IP Ethernet interface or infrared. 3rdi offers device managers that are pre-programmed to work with specific external devices and we can provide device managers to work with specific hardware on request.

Features

  • Schedule time frame from minutes to days, weeks, months and even years
  • Graphical timeline interface for entire creation, edit and status activities
  • Conventional tabular view with toggle function between timeline and table
  • Scheduler wizard offered in both beginner and advanced user modes
  • Copy and paste functions to rapidly build and modify schedules
  • Real time viewer reports all scheduled activities within a 24 hour window
  • Manual override control over any device connected to the scheduler controller
  • Schedule events by time or relative to other events
  • Flex events automatically fill gaps between any two events
  • Import-export schedules for reuse on other dates or other Spartan systems
  • Any device manager can connect by TCP/IP network link
  • Virtually limitless number of devices can be controlled for multiple channels
  • Full network TCP/IP compatibility between the scheduler and all device managers
  • Media file time duration is automatically read and inserted into the schedule
  • Report generator for program guides
  • Log daemon generates full activity logs every 24 hours in HTML format

Control Point

Basic Description

Control Point software is a virtual control panel for external hardware such as signal matrix routers, IR controllers, presentation displays, or any audio visual device that is controllable via RS-232, infrared or TCP/IP networks.  Control Point assists users that need to manage a variety of devices commonly found in multi-media presentation environments. This includes corporate conference rooms, educational campuses, hospitality, sports and entertainment venues, cable TV head-ends and broadcasters.

Functional Design

Control Point software is comprised of two software applications: Control Point client and Control Point server. Control Point server runs on a PC that is physically connected to the target control device(s) via RS-232 or TCP/IP ethernet. The server is able to manage multiple external devices that are connected by any or all of the physical links, such as RS-232 or ethernet. Each device is uniquely identified by the server and represented by a user selectable name, such as ‘AV Router Master Control Room’. The server maintains a record of status for each device. Control Point client software runs on the same PC as the server or any PC that has network access to the server. This design allows multiple concurrent client connections to a single server and management of all connected target hardware devices. All changes automatically update the server status record and is broadcast to all connected clients. Newly connecting clients are automatically updated to current status.

An important feature of Control Point client is the rich graphical interface which is highly customizable to allow you to create virtual panels that suit your taste and needs. The Control Point client consists of pages that are populated with individual buttons. There is no limit to the number of pages or the number and style of buttons on an page. Each button may represent and individual device, individual command or a combination of both. This design allows the creation of specific control pages and status displays.

Infrared Control

Basic Description

3rdi offers hardware for complete PC based infrared control systems. These are complete solutions that cover everything from learning IR commands to delivering them to a target device. These solutions are scalable for systems that include thousands of devices to be controlled, such as TV’s in a sports or entertainment venue.

Functional Design

The infrared control product are available in two designs. The RFIR control system uses an existing CATV RF network to distribute the IR commands to individual target devices. This system utilizes CATV channel 56 (418 MHz) to carry the infrared data packets from the host PC and signal modulator to individual receiver modules that decode the packets and replicate the original IR data via an infrared emitter diode that is directed to the IR sensor of the target device. The IPIR system uses a TCP/IP ethernet network to distribute the IR data to individual nodes, which in turn, replicate the original IR signal via an infrared emitter diode that is directed to the IR sensor of the target device.

Both designs provide full individual addressability to allow targeting specific devices with specific IR commands. Broadcast mode allows delivery of IR signals to any number of devices in one shot. Groups of devices can be segmented for common control and can range from one device on up to all devices.

Both the RF and IP systems are fully compatible with 3rdi Control Point or Spartan software systems for PC based management.
